There is journey that exists outside the five senses where we can travel for brief periods of time. Where we can do what we want to do, be who we want to be, feel the way we want to feel, be with whom we want to be with. It is a journey of complete safety, where there is no pain, where there is no sadness, where there is no loneliness. It is the Journey of the imagination.
Imagination is friendly yet within it there are hidden dangers because it is not real, imagination is a journey of beginnings. It can be the beginning of a new life style, it can mean planning for the future, and it can provide temporary relief from the pain reality.
Missing a loved one? Use your imagination and you can relive fond memories. Want to walk and talk with Jesus? Use your imagination and you can walk the roads with Him, you can sit on a hillside and hear Him teach. You can see, hear, and feel Him calm the storms. You can walk with Him and carry His cross to Calvary. Standing in need of a Heavenly Father's blessing? See the blessing in your imagination, then reach out into eternity and take it from a God who loves you deeply.
Jesus, himself used the journey of the imagination to teach in parables. Read the scriptures using your imagination and they will become real, they will become a part of your life. The journey of faith begins with the imagination and ends in the reality that God is, that Jesus is, that the Holy Spirit is, and you are eternally related with them. Journey to the dimension of the imagination you must, stay in it you must not.
The Journey of the Imagination
Written by Gary Piper
I probably do not have to tell that it is impossible to go through life without for some form of conflict, whether it be health, wealth, or otherwise. Each conflicting experience we encounter is a stepping stone of faith. It is our conflicts and brokenness that Jesus becomes real. Just as a mothers love becomes real to an infant when she feeds the child.
Often people think that when trouble comes they have some how lost their faith. So do not assume that once Jesus becomes real that once you give your life to him that somehow life becomes a "walk in the park". Jesus said, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart I have overcome the world." (John 16:33) This scripture provides a back drop for further understanding how faith factors in with the reality of our lives. It is in Jesus Christ and the reality of God's love and power that we must put our faith not necessarily what they can and will do for us.
Many a person has walked away from God because God did not answer a prayer the way they thought he should. What they failed to realize is that it is out of his love, compassion, and foreknowledge God blesses them and answers their prayers. It is through our faith that we affirm that out of his love for us God answers yes at times, no at times, and not right now at times. It is only though faith that we KNOW that our greatest need is God’s love not for his gifts and blessings.
Times will come when it will seem as if your faith is weak it will even seem as if Jesus has deserted you. You will pray and pray and you will think no one is listening or cares. There will even be times when you will think you are not worthy of Gods love and some people may tell you that. But just as the sun comes up every morning God will never ever stops loving you! There will never be a time when he will not want to bless you, never!
With those thoughts in mind let's exercise a small particle of faith and begin the adventure of life time. With anticipation and hope on your heart and mind may Jesus Christ paint on the canvas of your life a picture of his reality, of his promises, of his love. May the Wings of the Spirit take to the far reaches of heaven even if you are stuck in the muck and mire of life.
