Making Jesus Simple... Introduction…

Somehow through the course of time the simple message of God's love revealed through his own Son Jesus who was born to a carpenter became shrouded in the complexity of human existence.

Somehow the simple message of a kingdom set up on earth where God would be King where every man, woman, and child would be treated as equal, where there would be no rich or poor became lost in the intricate day to day activities of modern society.

Making Jesus Simple is based on the fact that you have some form of belief in and familiarity with God.  People sometimes use the bible to prove God lives, or Jesus' story is true and become frustrated because others don’t believe them.  Genesis starts out, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth…"  (Genesis 1:1).  It does not attempt to prove God's existence.  Likewise the Gospel of John begins, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God.  He was in the beginning with God."  (John 1:1 - 1:2)  Again there is no attempt to prove Jesus.  More about proof later.

Many years ago as Jesus' life on earth was drawing to an end the religious leaders put him on trial and took him before Pilate for judgment.  To judge someone is to ask the question, "What will you do with this person or with this issue?"  The leaders were asking Pilate, "What will you do with Jesus."  Finding no fault with Him yet "wimping" out Pilate washed his hands of Jesus.

Every day as you journey the road of life you will find Jesus standing in front of you and you will need to decide what to do with him.  Will you walk the road of Eternal Life with him or will you walk the road of Eternal Death without him.  Making Jesus Simple is about helping you as you struggle with what to do with Jesus.  It is about taking your life and building a deeper relationship with God.

The greatest need in the world is a no nonsense real Jesus Christ, a real person not a character camouflaged human complexity.  Anyone less than real will not do.  In the process of experiencing Jesus' reality we will come face to face with the greatest mystery of all times.  The mystery of how words written so long ago that have been rewritten and rewritten can suddenly come alive and become “faith proof” for us.

It will always be a mystery how the story of a woman touching the hem of the Jesus' robe can come to life for us bring us a healing and become our proof that Jesus heals.

It is a mystery that will silently beckon us to solve it, yet there is no solution for who really can read the thoughts of God, who can understand completely the mind of the Creator?  To seek an answer without first realizing there is no answer would be to miss the reality of Jesus for it is in the attempt where he becomes real.

There is one other reality that needs to be pointed out, the reality of you.  That may seem foolish but often times our identity is shrouded and lost in the complexity of life and  at times we have a tendency to put on masks to prevent others (ourselves included) to see who we really are.  Before proceeding further I would also like to reemphasize the fact that you are not a dummy.

"There is a rumor going around that you are a mixture of water, chemicals, blood, tissue cells, brain cells, bones, muscles, hair, and a host of other things.  Guess what?  The rumor is true.  There is also a rumor going around that you are a product of your environment.  That rumor is also true.  It's been reported that every person whose journey has come in contact with you makes you who you are.  That rumor is also true.  Within all the rumors surrounding your existence there is a tendency to reduce life to just words on paper, or reports in medical files, or statistical data in a computer.

What a waste it is to take a life as precious as yours and just reduce it to lifeless words on paper.  What a waste it is to take your life and just confine it to data in a computer.  What a waste it is to take your life just lock it away and blame all it's imperfections on past relationships and on society.  What a waste it is to take the gift of life that God placed in a clay temple and just reduce it to anything less than greatness.

Life goes beyond words on paper, computer files, good or bad relationships, good or bad experiences, good or bad judgments.  Your life reaches into eternity and touches the hands and heart of the Creator.  You are God's greatest achievement, the power that created and sustains the universe flow freely through the water, chemicals, blood, tissue cells, brain cells, bones, muscles, hair, and everything else that makes up little old you fragile imperfect you.

I hope you are feeling real important right now because you are important.  So if you aren't than you need to make a few adjustments in your life.  You need to see yourself through God’s eyes.  You need to see yourself through Jesus’ eyes as he hung on the cross and then as he exited his tomb.

Never, ever let anyone, not even yourself reduce your life to less than God's greatest achievement.  God loves you and his love is not based on words or data on computers it is based simply on whom you are and who you can become.  So stretch the potential of your mind, stretch every fiber of your body, stretch your spirit and grasp the Wings of the Spirit and let him take you beyond life as you know it and live within the Heart of God.  But know this, God's love is so perfect that if you choose not to live with him he has created a place for you so you can be by yourself, it's called Hell.  The journey to greatness is your choice and does not depend anyone else, or on any rumors."
